This call to action lies at the heart of this retelling of Antigone set, slightly out of time, in Dublin’s ancient inner city. A gangland feud rages, creating a culture of containment and fear which pervades the community. Twig yearns to escape with her lover, Eamon, but a deadly shootout between her brothers, Paulie and Eddie, results in local crime lord Leon vowing to let Paulie’s body rot in the street. Twig refuses to bow down to his edict and searches desperately for her injured brother. Twig’s determination to do what’s right and Leon’s desire to maintain control seals both of their fates. The scene is set for a tragic showdown in Dublin’s docklands.
Marian Quinn’s second feature was the opening night feature at the Dublin International Film Festival. Featuring the breakout performance of Sade Malone, prompting her inclusion in Screen International’s ‘Stars of Tomorrow’, alongside veteran Brian F. O’Byrne in the role of Leon, her adversary. With cinematography from the award winning Declan Quinn and a soundtrack from Dubliner Gerry Leonard, lead guitarist with David Bowie, including Leonard Cohen’s Anthem performed by Susan McKeown.
